Luke's Seasonal Selections
06.01.12
Discover the exquisite seasonal delights our buyer Luke is recommending this week
Wild Mushrooms
- Fresh South African Cep secured.
The weather is so changeable in SA that we do not know how long this second flush will last. We make hay whilst the sun shines.
- I have dropped the price of American girolles, as the week after next we start with Portugeuse smaller specimens.
- French yellow legged chanterelle
- Portugeuse pied de mouton
- Portugeuse trompette
Truffles
- There may well be scraps of white & Autumn truffles around, but our recommendation are fine Perigord tubers. At their best now with a regular size (perfect for slicing) great nose and marbling. Prices have decreased.
Fruit & Veg
We have lost some cherished friends recently for sure. Muscat grapes for example have gone to sleep two weeks earlier than last year. Many crops stay with us as the winter is fairly mild so far. Products of note are:
- Scottish Sea Kale
- Blood oranges (not quite at their bloody best but getting there)
- The first Seville oranges. For marmalade or a lovely bitter tinged sorbet.
- Canadian cherries
- South African peaches and apricots.
- Our extensive range of exotic roots & shoots forges on.
Game
- Venison haunches & saddles.
